Car insurance: New engine for iQ

Thursday, 05 March 2009

Motorists keen to cut car insurance costs by downsizing may be impressed by the latest Toyota iQ developments.

The manufacturer has revealed the world's smallest four-seater now comes with a new engine option.

Unveiled at the Geneva motor show, the 1.33-litre Dual VVT-i petrol unit features the company's Optimal Drive system.

This option comes with a six-speed manual gearbox as standard and also includes Toyota's Stop & Start technology, which is designed to reduce fuel consumption in urban environments.

When fitted with the new engine, the iQ is capable of 58.9 mpg and releases 113 g/km of carbon dioxide.

The car was recently awarded the maximum five-star safety rating, following crash tests by Euro Ncap.

As well as saving money on petrol, drivers who trade in a large vehicle for a smaller model may also find they qualify for low cost motor insurance.

Cars with smaller engines are generally eligible for cheaper cover.
