Car insurance: Drivers 'should go for the smart option'

Thursday, 15 January 2009

Motorists keen to cut the amount they spend on fuel, road tax and car insurance are being encouraged to consider the latest model from smart.

Due to arrive in showrooms across the UK in March, the smart cdi is capable of 83.1 mpg.

According to the manufacturer, the vehicle also emits less carbon dioxide than any other current production car - at 88 g/km.

The arrival of the latest model follows the launch of the smart micro hybrid drive - which the company explained can offer fuel savings of up to 24 per cent in conditions where drivers are stopping and starting a lot.

Dermot Kelly, managing director at Mercedes-Benz UK, stated the manufacturer's "reputation for affordability and economy is growing and the range is being considered by an increasing number of motorists who are seeking to reduce their motoring costs".

Motorists who opt for a smart car may also find they qualify for cheap vehicle insurance as a result of the models' small engine size.
