Travel insurance customers have suffered severe disruption due to this week's snowfall.

A large number of travellers were incapable of leaving the country for their holidays, as several British airports were closed and many trains were cancelled.

Gatwick airport was forced to close on Wednesday (December 1st) because of adverse weather conditions, which affected many flights.

A Gatwick airport spokesperson said: "We brought in extra people to try to clear the runway. We had a vast army of people. But as fast as they were clearing the snow, the quicker it settled again."

As well as this, Edinburgh airport closed as a result of the hazardous weather, while Eurostar customers also had to endure delays both in France and the UK.

Meanwhile, the Met Office has estimated that the ice and snow will persist over the weekend, indicating that it may be a while before the situation improves for travel insurance customers.
