Travel insurance: Heavy snow disrupts flight and rail services
Wednesday, 06 January 2010
Heavy snow which has caused many air and rail services to be cancelled have highlighted the importance of taking out travel insurance when planning a holiday.
Would-be holidaymakers were stranded after Liverpool and Manchester airports shut for several hours, causing many flights to be either cancelled or delayed.
Flights were also suspended at Gatwick, Southampton, Luton, Birmingham, Bristol and Exeter airports and passengers at Cardiff, Heathrow, Manchester and Stansted have been warned of delays.
Budget airline easyJet also announced it had been forced to axe more than 70 services.
Meanwhile those planning to travel by train were also struggling, with many rail services in Scotland and eastern England being disrupted by the freezing conditions.
Parts of Scotland, northern England and Wales have been worst affected by the severe weather conditions, with around six inches of snow falling.
Gordon Brown said the government was doing everything possible to keep the country moving.
"The weather is taking a turn for the worse. We are doing everything possible to keep disruption to a minimum," the Prime Minister said.
