Travel insurance: The internet is changing the way people book holidays

Wednesday, 01 October 2008

The increasing use of the internet is changing the way people in the UK plan and book their holidays, travel insurance customers may be interested to hear.

In particular, social networking is opening up new channels to exchange information about different destinations, said travel journalist Russell Amerasekera.

His comments follow a recent survey, which found that three-quarters of holidaymakers make a point of seeing a city's cultural attractions when they are on a break.

While online booking has been around for some time, there is now greater access than ever to more information about different activities, Mr Amerasekera explained.

Of social networking sites such as Facebook and Bebo, he added: "It has meant that people are able to exchange information about the best places to go, about their best choice of restaurant or their choice of bar or their best art gallery."
