Car insurance: 'Campaign for speed bumps gathers pace'

Thursday, 10 January 2008

Road safety campaigners have intensified their battle for more to be done at a Crewe accident hotspot.

Before the festive season, 500 people put their names to a petition for speed bumps to be introduced at a section of Edleston Road, reports the Crewe Chronicle.

And now the protests have gathered more pace after a man was fatally injured when hit by a car on New Year's Day.

Campaigner Tina Kerr stated that she wants the authorities to do more in the bid to cut down on road accidents in the area.

She told the paper: "We don't know if speed was the issue on New Year's Day but if it was, we hope the death toll doesn't have to be as high as Middlewich Road before something gets done."

Drivers involved in collisions could find that their car insurance premiums are impacted upon.

The Sentencing Guidelines Council stated earlier this week that community penalties should be given to drivers who cause death by careless driving in the least serious instances.
