Motor insurance: Motorists 'starting to accept cameras'

Friday, 28 March 2008

A new survey from IAM Motoring Trust has claimed that more motorists are beginning to accept speed cameras.

In total, three-quarters of those studied stated that they do not mind the existence of speed cameras on the roads, reports ic Liverpool.

Yet just 36 per cent of respondents thought that the devices are placed at the more deadly crash spots.

Head of road safety at the IAM Trust Kevin Delaney hoped that a decrease in the number of people being snapped by cameras is because drivers are beginning to think more about road safety.

The official commented: "Hopefully, it is because more believe that the cameras save lives but it could also be to do with motorists becoming more aware of where cameras are sited."

And more confidence will be created in the sector if less motorists start to believe that cameras are deployed simply to generate revenue.

This week, police in Northern Ireland stated that new speed cameras are to be positioned on a section of the A2.

Motorists caught speeding may find that their motor insurance premiums are impacted upon.
