Motor insurance: Speed van 'hidden from view'

Wednesday, 04 June 2008

Drivers in the Lancashire area have complained that a van carrying a speed camera has been deliberately hidden from view, something that could impact on their motor insurance.

The Lancashire Partnership for Road Safety unit is situated behind a wall and therefore partially disguised, they claimed, as reported by the Lancashire Evening Post.

A local noted that the camera - on Chorley Road in Walton-le-Dale - should be placed somewhere else and said this directly to the driver of the vehicle.

The unnamed source asserted: "His reaction was to say that there was nowhere else to park close by safely, but I told him that was a load of rubbish."

While the partnership itself declined to comment on the matter, a spokesman at the police suggested that the van is highly visible because it is "bright yellow".

He added that the owner of the house whose garden the camera is in does not mind it being there.

This week another speed camera in Wiltshire has been set alight by apparently unhappy motorists, the Gazette & Herald revealed.
