Car insurance: Speed camera locator smartphone app launched
Saturday, 05 December 2009
A new speed camera locator application for smartphones has been launched to notify car insurance customers of nearby mobile cameras.
Speed camera data firm RoadPilot has created the device to make drivers more aware of local speed limits with minimal distraction, allowing users to give the road ahead - rather than their speedometer - their full attention.
RoadPilot Mobile incorporates a database of both UK and European speed camera sites.
Other useful features include a real-time alert facility, which enables motorists to notify other members of the RoadPilot Mobile user community if specific mobile speed camera sites - such as a police speed-checking vehicle - are active.
The download is available on an annual subscription basis, but RoadPilot is also running a no-strings free trial run until February 28th 2010.
Established in 2000, RoadPilot produced the world's first GPS-based speed camera location device and has data supply agreements with major partner firms such as Nokia and TeleAtlas.
