Motor insurance: Speed cameras in Northumberland

A number of new speed cameras are set to be placed in an area of Northumberland after a campaign by locals to improve the safety of roads there.
Locations set to get the fresh devices include Blyth's B1523 Plessey Road, Ponteland's A696 West Road and College Road in Ashington, reports the Evening Chronicle.
Northumbria Safer Roads Initiative project manager Ray King claimed that injuries as a result of car accidents can be reduced after speed cameras are introduced.
He told the news provider: "We have chosen sites where we could determine that speed enforcement would make an impact on driver behaviour and speeds ... we are actively campaigning to change driver behaviour."
Councillor Elsie Harvey, from Northumberland county council, stated that she is "delighted" with the move after a campaign for such an installation at Seghill.
It was recently revealed by Lancashire Road Safety Partnership, that fewer than half of the people offered the chance to go on a speed awareness course in Lancashire after they were caught speeding opted to do so.
Motorists caught speeding may find that their motor insurance premiums are negatively impacted upon.
