Car insurance: Call for cameras 'welcomed'

Friday, 04 April 2008

Motorists in Wiltshire have reacted positively to a drive in the country that could see the introduction of more speed cameras.

Of those polled by the Safety Camera Unit, 73 per cent believed that speeding even at lower speeds can lead to accidents, reports the Wiltshire Times.

And 81 per cent thought that drivers going over the legal limit are a risk to other people and put lives in danger, while 87 per cent claimed that speed cameras are a useful accident prevention device.

Manager of the Safety Camera Unit Nisha Devani told the publication that it is good news more people are beginning to realise that speeding is dangerous.

"This survey confirms that there is support for safety camera enforcement in the area and that people believe cameras play an important part in saving lives," she remarked.

A campaign to improve road safety in the Drighlington area of Bradford recently met with success and mobile cameras will be used there to try and punish speeding drivers, something that might impact on their car insurance.
