Motor insurance: Solihull drivers given warning

Tuesday, 27 May 2008

Police in the Midlands have warned motorists there to slow down after the introduction of new speed cameras.

Solihull council has given the force money for three laser speed devices, each with a £10,000 price tag, reports the Birmingham Mail.

And in April a high number of drivers were captured by the technology but drivers have been given another piece of advice by the authorities.

Councillor Ted Richards, who deals with transport, highways and infrastructure, said that there is now a chance drivers' performances will be improved.

"People deserve to be safe when they are travelling around our borough, which is why we are determined to crack down on speeding motorists," he told the paper.

He added that the "positive" relationship that has been seen between the council and the police in the area ought to continue.

Last week, a survey carried out by RoadPilot found that 52 per cent of drivers think the positioning of speed cameras is inadequate.

Those caught speeding may find that their motor insurance premiums are negatively impacted upon.
