Motor insurance: Speed guns banned from 20mph zone
Tuesday, 05 February 2008
Community speed guns have been banned from a city centre in Suffolk, a ruling that councillors have said is frustrating.
St Edmundsbury borough council officials Paul Farmer and Richard Rout argued that improved measures should be put in place in Abbeygate, Bury St Edmunds as it is a historic area, reports EADT.
Police have said that such testing can no longer be implemented in zones with a 20pmh limit, which includes Abbeygate.
Mr Farmer told the publication that he is "disappointed" with the development and that there should be changes.
"It throws into doubt the whole concept of this level of speed restriction and we know from experience it is not self-enforcing," he commented.
And the other man suggested that there is too much "red tape" put in the way of improving the situation.
Recently, experts in Scotland stated that more speed cameras should be used in a bid to cut down on the number of accidents seen on the roads.
Drivers caught speeding may find that their motor insurance premiums are impacted upon.
