Speed humps 'causing costly repairs' for car insurance customers

Wednesday, 05 May 2010

Growing numbers of speed humps on the roads are causing car insurance customers to pay out for repairs to their vehicles, it has been claimed.

Speed humps are put in place by local councils to improve road safety but Honest John, which provides expert car reviews and advice, has questioned whether the long-term effects of the bumps are being taken into account.

If motor insurance customers do receive damage to their car through hitting a speed bump then they should be able to claim the cost back through their car insurance policy.

Honest John believes that speed humps may have an impact upon the condition of roads as well as vehicle safety.

"The excessive spread of speed humps on Britain's roads has gone on virtually unchecked for years, with their perceived effectiveness at improving road safety seen as a green light to place them almost anywhere," said Honest John.

Going over speed humps could cause long-term damage to various car parts, including the tyres and suspension, which could result in costly repairs for car insurance customers.
