Friday, 02 May 2008

A campaign has been initiated to try and reduce the speed limit in one area of Wiltshire due to law-breaking drivers.

The town council in Devizes will try to get a decision from Wiltshire county council over Bath Road in the town after local James Bates complained, reports This is Wiltshire.co.uk.

He suggested that he is concerned with the number of speeding motorists on the stretch and suggested that changes should be enforced.

Yet councillor Paula Winchcombe remarked that developments at the location may not be possible.

"I can understand the frustration of people living in Bath Road but the recent traffic model for Devizes didn't suggest 20mph as an option," she commented.

And a spokesman from Wiltshire county council noted that amendments have been undertaken at Bath Road, with others likely to follow.

Recent figures released by the Ministry of Justice stated that a high number of drivers in North Wales were caught driving while using their mobile phones 2006.
