Travel insurance: Irish market 'helped by festival'

Monday, 17 March 2008

St Patrick's Day can improve the popularity of Ireland as a tourist destination, an expert at Tourism Ireland has stated.

In recent times the festival in Dublin has grown and this is something that has made it an even greater proposition, the spokeswoman stated.

Now, in the run-up to St Patrick's Day, she said, there are various activities taking place, such as exhibitions and displays.

As a result, tourists extend their breaks and decide to stay in Ireland for up to a week or possibly longer, she remarked.

She commented: "People are increasingly taking longer holidays to Ireland and St Patrick's is a good focus for this, now being a several-day festival."

Furthermore, travellers should also look at their options and consider that there is much to do in the country such as climbing, cycling and horse riding, she stated.

A six-month campaign was recently initiated by Tourism Ireland in the effort to promote the location across the globe.

Travellers should ensure that they have adequate travel insurance available before they embark on their journeys.
