Travel insurance: 'Make sure' polices cover hen parties

Tuesday, 03 June 2008

Those about to embark on a stag party should ensure that their travel insurance policies offer adequate cover, it has been claimed.

Designaventure noted that people going on these trips are likely to take part in extreme sports and therefore it is crucial that they have something to fall back on.

Project manager at the company Anna Makin Made remarked that insurance must be considered in relation to specific holidays.

"Sometimes there's a little clause saying they don't cover for machine gun shooting, so they need to check with their insurance company that they are covered," she commented.

In 2007, Halifax revealed that of the 8.6 million Britons who had departed on a single-sex holiday that year, 25 per cent had done so for a stag or hen party.

And the Foreign and Commonwealth Office has stated that in 2005, 70 per cent of younger people chose to have these celebrations on foreign soil rather than in the UK.
