The Foreign Office has issued a
travel insurance warning to revellers heading off on stag and hen parties overseas, as up to one million Britons are anticipated to go abroad for pre-wedding celebrations in 2011.
It claims that overexcited holidaymakers can easily encounter trouble by upsetting local customs and celebrating too excessively, which means that travel insurance is always advisable.
However, it is predicted that 169,000 people embarking on stag and hen dos this year will not have any kind of travel insurance to cover them if they do face any problems.
Foreign Office spokesman Phil Lord said: "Cultural differences mean some people will take offence to risqué fancy dress costumes and rowdy behaviour."
Meanwhile, Maria Leng, a consular official in Spain, stated: "Consular staff regularly handle arrests, hospitalisation and lost and stolen passports."
Ms Leng added that holidaymakers should remember that sun and alcohol do not always mix.
