Car insurance: Motorists 'need to stay alert'

Tuesday, 03 February 2009

Drivers keen to avoid a car insurance claim may do well to pay heed to advice being offered by Protyre.

According to the group, the current wintry weather conditions gripping much of the UK require motorists to be skilful and gentle behind the wheel.

It stated drivers who find themselves sliding on ice should keep off the clutch, accelerator and brakes until they manage to bring the car back under control.

The company also recommended motorists who get stuck in ice or snow avoid spinning their wheels excessively, as this can damage - or even burst - tyres.

Finally, Protyre urged people who did not want to jeopardise their low cost motor insurance to stay alert and give other vehicles significantly more room than usual.

In related news, the company recently warned motorists that failing to replace worn or defective tyres in a bid to cut costs was a false economy.
