Travel insurance: Staycation benefits hit home

Tuesday, 15 December 2009

Brits have continued to realise the benefits of the staycation, with more people making the most of their travel insurance policies on domestic breaks.

Figures from VisitEngland show that the number of holiday trips taken by Britons within England this summer was up by more than a fifth.

As well as this, spend during the period increased, boosting the country's economy during the difficult times.

"The staycation stopped being about staying in your house and your own garden and became all about getting out there and enjoying the best of England, from exploring new towns and cities, camping, visiting attractions and enjoying a variety of activities," explained James Berresford, chief executive of VisitEngland.

Seaside holidays were particularly popular and more people opted for self-catering accommodation to make their money go even further.

Wherever your holidays take you, travel insurance is vital to ensure that the trip can continue as smoothly as possible should anything go wrong.
