Car insurance: People 'want to explore the open road'

Friday, 01 May 2009

Those with car insurance who are planning to explore the open road this bank holiday are not alone, one commentator has remarked.

Amanda Lamb is the presenter of TV show A Place in the Sun and said rather than lie on a beach, people are getting more and more into road trips.

This is because they are exciting, she added.

Her comments accompany research published by Volkswagen and undertaken by Coleman Parkes, which found that one in five people are planning a driving holiday this summer.

It suggested a more spontaneous approach was being taken by consumers who want to escape the gloomy economic climate.

"A motoring holiday allows people - and particularly families - the chance to have some spontaneity and adventure in their lives, and provides a real break from the old routine," added director of Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles Simon Elliott.

Meanwhile, a Met Office summer forecast released this week is likely to encourage those who are staying in the UK for their getaway.

The season is expected to be drier and warmer than average, with some temperatures topping 30°C.
