Sun-seeking travel insurance holders should head to eurozone

Travel insurance policyholders looking for some winter sun should head to the eurozone, it has been suggested.

According to David Swann, currency strategist at Travelex, the area still offers great value for money, despite the pound dropping to a five-month low in recent weeks.

Year-on-year, the sterling is still more than six per cent up on the euro, he said.

"This could mean that popular eurozone destinations, like Spain and Greece, could provide holidaymakers wanting some half term winter sun great value [for money]."

Any travel insurance holders who fancy heading to the snow this half term should try Italian and French ski resorts, according to Mr Swann.

He said they may be "more affordable than their Swiss rivals".

Mr Swann's comments came as the International Currency Exchange revealed that, despite the pound strengthening, Britons are heading further away to make the most of their money.

"Sterling has just hit an eight month high against the US dollar, so the US is sure to be a popular destination outside the eurozone," he added.
