Residents in Surrey are being reminded of the value of possessing good
home insurance after a recent flurry of burglaries in the county.
Police are saying that homeowners in Walton, Cobham, Weybridge and Esher need to exercise extra care to guarantee that their sheds and garages are secure as a result of the break-ins.
The warning also underlines the importance of home and contents insurance that covers out-buildings.
Surrey Police say that while many houses are fitted with alarm systems, garages and sheds are often left unsecure and offer "easy pickings" to opportunistic criminals.
In one of the burglaries, a criminal broke into a shed and stole a Colnago Arte racing bike valued at £3,000.
Home insurance customers across the UK have recently been reminded to keep their windows and doors secure in the summer months, as there can a temptation to leave them open when it's hot.
