Motor insurance: Swiftcover in insurance first

Tuesday, 12 September 2006

Online insurer Swiftcover has introduced an innovative new facility to its motor insurance customers.

Swift Text is a text service that will allow those shopping around for a car insurance quote to receive this on their mobile phone within five minutes of making the request.

All mobile phone users whose handsets have SMS or WAP facilities could make use of this service, with each text costing the standard network rate.

The interactive service requires customers to text SWIFT to 61066, upon which they will receive a reply requesting their postcode, date of birth and the number of years of no-claims discount.

Once the service has received this information, it will request the customer's car registration number as well as their name.

Once this is processed, the user will need to text back their occupation and the final reply will provide a quote and quote ID.

The service will direct the customer to the website, where they can use their ID to access the quote and purchase their insurance.

This new service demonstrates Swiftcover's "commitment to innovation", according to its chief executive Andrew Blowers.

"A text system for quotes is a natural addition to our online service, where consumers can get quotes, buy and manage policies and make claims entirely online," he commented.

"Most importantly, we are providing digital solutions in an increasingly digitalised market and cutting out the call centre which not only minimises frustration for the consumer, but allows us to deliver some of the cheapest premiums on the market."
