Travel insurance: Switzerland 'is popular with Brits'

Wednesday, 23 September 2009

A significant number of Brits may take out travel insurance, pack a suitcase and jump on a plane to Switzerland in the coming year, if the comments of one industry group are anything to go by.

Switzerland Tourism claimed people from the UK have been visiting the country for a long time, pointing out such individuals were responsible for introducing winter sports in St Moritz in 1864.

The group suggested the destination is popular with vacationers because of the range of activities on offer and the picturesque scenery.

It acknowledged skiing is a key attraction, but added there are plenty of other options open to travellers - including tobogganing, paragliding, winter hiking and dog sledding.

Spokeswoman Julie Melet stated: "If people are looking for a relaxing holiday, visitors can turn to our great wellness opportunities with spas and hot springs."

Meanwhile, individuals who are planning a more energetic break in Switzerland may be well advised to ensure their travel insurance covers them for any activities they intend to undertake.
