Travel insurance customers 'can fly to Thailand'
Saturday, 08 May 2010
The restrictions advising travel insurance customers against travel to Thailand have been lifted following a review.
Widespread disruptions have affected the travel industry, forcing many operators to offer amendments to travel insurance policyholders' plans, allowing them to re-book or giving free cancellations to customers.
The Foreign and Commonwealth Office has updated its advice to say: "We no longer advise against all but essential travel to the whole country in view of the continued political unrest in the city. You should exercise caution, especially in the northern provinces and Pattaya."
Some travel insurance customers are still struggling to return from abroad or to leave Europe as volcanic ash from Eyjafjallajokull in Iceland is continuing to affect flights.
Airports in west Ireland have been forced to close again today (May 7th) as there is a 1,000-mile wide ash cloud of the west coast of the country, which could affect the engines on any passenger planes caught in it.
