Plans by the transport secretary to make it more difficult for motorists to pass driving tests have been welcomed by uSwitch.com.Such a move could ultimately improve the safety of the roads for drivers, stated insurance expert at the company Ashton Berkhauer, in response to Ruth Kelly's proposals.Cheaper motor insurance may become a possibility under the new scheme, he added, which might be an incentive for drivers who have seen the average charges for learning rocket to £1,337."The new test should improve the standard of new drivers on the road, reduce the number of accidents and subsequently lead to cheaper insurance - in addition to the discounts offered," he asserted. He added that a large number of providers should fully get behind the scheme so that it is given a greater degree of legitimisation.Ms Kelly stated this week that new drivers could have to pass four tests and take more lessons in different conditions.Compare Car insurance - The cheapest on average
