Car insurance: New device could protect rear passengers

Wednesday, 01 October 2008

Safety-conscious car insurance customers may be interested to hear that Toyota has announced it has produced the first ever supplemental restraint system rear window curtain shield airbag to protect rear passengers involved in an accident.

The airbag is stored in the roof lining and minimises impact to the head from a colliding vehicle.

Its use in the upcoming iQ model is expected to double head protection for rear passengers.

Toyota claims the new product demonstrates its commitment to producing safer vehicles.

In the future, it states it intends to work towards developing even better protected vehicles, participate in the creation of a safe traffic environment and help educate people on road safety.

Motorists whose cars incorporate devices which guard them from injury may find they have access to cheap car insurance.

Last month, the Toyota Fund for Europe launched EcoDriving, which is a scheme to help people save money at the pump and reduce CO2 emissions through smarter motoring habits.
