Car insurance: Toyota highlights success of hybrids

Monday, 07 September 2009

Savvy drivers who know where to get the best deals on low cost motor insurance may be increasingly turning to cars that can help them make savings in other areas as well, if new figures are anything to go by.

Data released by Toyota has shown it has sold some two million hybrid vehicles around the world since 1997.

This type of model could help motorists reduce their outgoings by allowing them to cut down on fuel consumption and also minimise CO2 emissions.

In the UK, the greener an auto is, the less road tax the owner is required to pay.

According to Toyota, its hybrid vehicles have helped to cut CO2 emissions by 11 million tonnes over the course of the past 12 years.

The group currently sells 13 such models in 50 different locations around the world.

In other news, drivers keen to protect their cheap car insurance premiums may be impressed to hear the Toyota Prius has been awarded a maximum five-star safety rating from Euro Ncap.

This score reflects the fact the manufacturer has made use of technology designed to help the person behind the wheel avoid accidents.
