Car insurance: Toyota recall work starts today

Wednesday, 10 February 2010

More than 200 Toyota service centres across the UK have this morning (February 10th) begun work to fix the motors affected by faulty accelerator pedals, car insurance customers may be interested to know.

The accelerator pedal recall involves 180,865 vehicles in the UK. However, Toyota anticipates all of the vehicles can be fixed in a matter of weeks thanks to service centres extending their opening hours.

A Toyota spokesperson said each brake pedal repair should take no longer than 30 minutes to complete and that service centres had the capacity to repair 6,000 vehicles per day

The spokesperson added that technicians had received specific training in the repair, the parts were in stock and the first cars had already been attended to.

Toyota GB managing director Miguel Fonseca has apologised about the concern caused to its customers, but added that there have been no reports of any accidents or injuries occurring as a result of this brake pedal problem in Europe or the UK.
