Car insurance: Drivers 'should fit tracking devices'

Wednesday, 11 February 2009

Motorists who want to protect their cheap car insurance premiums may benefit from fitting a tracking device in their vehicles, it has been suggested.

Tracker - a stolen motor recovery group - issued this statement following the sentencing of a gang of vehicle thieves at Southwark crown court recently.

It explained the criminals had made more than £1 million by stealing cars, selling them and then re-stealing them.

The company claimed fitting a tracking device increases the likelihood a stolen motor will be recovered - which may mean owners can avoid a car insurance claim.

Commenting on the latest scam, Tracker spokesman Stuart Chapman said: "Had any of the vehicles been fitted with tracking technology, there is a good chance that they would have been traced - stopping this scam earlier."

Drivers may find by equipping their cars with certain safety devices they are more likely to qualify for low cost motor insurance.
