Travel insurance: Travel chaos continues for second day

Friday, 11 August 2006

Chaos at airports across the country has continued for the second day today after police foiled an attempted terrorist attack.

Thousands of passengers have been left stranded with no idea whether their travel insurance policies will be valid for them to take another flight after hundreds of planes were grounded due to a suspected terrorist plot.

Many passengers who took out holiday insurance covering them for a terrorist attack will not be able to make a claim as no terrorist attack actually took place.

Travellers are being advised to check their travel insurance policies carefully to see if they are covered to take another later flight or get a cheap travel insurance online if they have not yet decided to buy travel insurance.

Hand luggage restrictions also mean that passengers should be careful what they decide to take with them on their holiday. Many travel insurance policies do not cover the loss or damage of expensive items that are not put in hand luggage.

Again, the advice to passengers is to talk to their insurer before deciding what to pack for their holiday.
