Travel insurance: Guidebooks 'have been a major help'

Thursday, 08 May 2008

Travel for tourists has improved due to the extensive amount of guidebooks available to them, one organisation has claimed.

Spokesman at the Association of British Travel Agents Sean Tipton stated that such guides are usually "extremely accurate" as publishers normally ensure errors are dealt with.

While three decades ago, tourists had little help in the way of travel books, he asserted, the proliferation of documents now serves them well.

"If you were to travel outside western Europe it could be a very daunting experience," he commented.

He suggested that any "reliable" texts were hard to come by during these times but matters have changed.

A recent report carried out by photographer Jim Batty called Who Buys Travel Guides found that the type of consumers least likely to purchase such items are pensioners from Scotland of a working class background.

Those more likely to buy guidebooks are young Londoners, aged between 25 and 34, it revealed.

People embarking on journeys may wish to consider the number of travel insurance products that are available on the market.
