Travel insurance cost is an important factor when taking out a policy, but it is not the only factor consumers should focus on, an industry figure has said.

Sean Tipton, spokesperson at ABTA - The Travel Association, told World First that concentrating on price is a false economy, as there is a chance that the cheapest policy may not offer comprehensive cover.

He stated that it is a worry that so many people judge a policy on how much it costs without checking exactly what they are covered for should the worst happen.

"The most important issue with taking out insurance is the medical expenses "if you're travelling to somewhere like America, that you should have cover for up to 2 million pounds," he told the news provider.

Mr Tipton has previously urged travellers to consider factors such as the excess payable, which medical expenses are included and any exclusions before they accept a policy.ADNFCR-3010-ID-19602302-ADNFCR
