Travel insurance customers book river cruises

Friday, 01 July 2011

Travel insurance customers contemplating a holiday abroad this year have been told that there were over 134,000 river cruise bookings from UK passengers in 2010.

This is according to figures from the Passenger Shipping Association (PSA), which revealed that river cruising holidays were up eight per cent last year compared to 2009.

Furthermore, it added that Douro cruises in Portugal were up by over 80 per cent and visits to the Rhine had increased by nearly a quarter.

Bill Gibbons, director at PSA, said: "River cruisers take time to enjoy the finer points of cuisine, continuous panoramic landscapes and easy access to riverbank cities, but at the same time show their adventurous streak exploring rivers farther afield in the Far East and Russia."

Recently, the Association of British Insurers released a travel insurance brochure aimed at guiding UK holidaymakers planning a trip abroad.

Its advice covered a range of topics that an insurance policy should cover when people take one out.
