It is essential that those heading on a break to sunnier climes purchase
travel insurance before they leave, an industry figure has said.
Sean Tipton, a spokesperson at ABTA - The Travel Association, stated that it is crucial that holidaymakers examine a number of policies and select a product which meets all their individual requirements.
He urged travellers not to focus solely on price, as the cheapest policy may not always be the best and that they should consider other factors, such as the excess payable and whether medical bills are included.
"It's unlikely you are going to need [a multi-million pound level of cover] but that's the point of insurance, you're covering yourself for the worst case scenario," Mr Tipton added.
According to a study by travelsupermarket.com, 16 per cent of people said they are more likely to go on holiday in the next year than they were six months ago.
