Home insurance holders: try steam to get clean!

Saturday, 21 April 2012

The virtues of steam cleaning have been extolled by a pair of experts on the subject from tool company Black and Decker.

The pair were recently interviewed at the Ideal Home Show where one, Ed Higgins, talked of the "deeper clean" capabilities of the technology, sure to appeal to home insurance holders who are trying to get things spick and span.

When it comes to the traditional vacuum cleaner, he said, better results can be achieved for certain sorts of mess with steam. A mop is also left in the shade by the technology in these situations, he added.

He recommended the steam cleaning for those with animals. Not – of course – to clean them, but to clean up the likes of fleas and dirt after them!

He said that floors furnished with the likes of woodchip, tiles or laminate were among those that could be cleaned by the technology.

"Because it's steam, you're heating the steam up to 130 degrees, so it's going to kill pretty much all germs and bacteria. There are no chemicals required," added the company's John Westland.

He also said that the technology could be used on "sealed laminate flooring" and that, although it would "refresh" carpets it would not fully clean them.

The London-set Ideal Homes Show finished on April 1st.
