Travel insurance: Turkey 'will be popular'

Wednesday, 01 April 2009

The number of Brits taking out travel insurance and heading to Turkey this summer may rise, it has been suggested.

According to air travel specialist Mott MacDonald, countries like this - that are outside the eurozone and are keeping prices down - will attract tourists despite the economic downturn.

Director of aviation Chris Chalk said Turkey is getting progressively cheaper.

"There is a lot of discounting going on at the moment where the core markets in various countries need to exist and keep people coming in," he stated.

In related news, the Royal Mail Group's Post Office Holiday Costs Barometer revealed Thailand was the cheapest destination for Brits heading abroad at the moment.

However, the International Air Transport Association has predicted the global aviation industry will experience losses of $4.7 billion (£3.2 billion) this year.

People who are determined to escape the economic doom and gloom in the UK by heading overseas this summer may be able to save money by searching for cheap travel insurance online.
