Car insurance: Safe tyres 'can prevent an accident'

Wednesday, 01 July 2009

Motorists can reduce the likelihood of being involved in an accident and having to make a car insurance claim by checking their tyres this summer, it has been suggested.

TyreSafe pointed out more families are opting for UK holidays this year so there will probably be more traffic on the roads.

In order to make sure trips get off to a good start, the group stated drivers should be checking the air pressure, tread depth and general wear and tear of their tyres.

The organisation explained if these important vehicle parts are under-inflated, it can lead to erratic handling and even a blow-out.

Meanwhile, sufficient tread depth is vital for safe braking in wet conditions.

Chairman Stuart Jackson commented: "By making tyre safety a priority when planning a driving holiday, motorists can help to ensure that they experience a safer, trouble-free journey."

People who follow this advice may be in a better position to protect the no-claims discount on their car insurance policy.
