Car insurance: UK street with most number of claims gets bubble-wrapped

Thursday, 28 January 2010

The street with the highest number of car insurance claims in Britain has been covered in bubble-wrap to raise awareness of the dangers of the road.

Trees, pavements, vehicles, lampposts and even garden gnomes on Somerville Road in Worcester were wrapped in plastic sheeting by Confused.com to highlight the need to be careful when behind the wheel.

Will Thomas, head of motor insurance at Confused.com said that there had been a high increase in the number of car insurance claims following the recent severe weather.

He explained: "We thought we'd highlight the need to take care out there and make sure you're fully covered on the roads with the best motor policy in our own, fun way."

Mr Thomas added that making even two claims could result in the average price of a car insurance premium being doubled by providers.

The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) advises that car owners can reduce the risk of needing to make a claim on car insurance during bad weather by keeping their vehicle well-maintained, such as ensuring lights are working, windscreens and windows are completely clear and checking tyre tread depths and pressures.
