Travel insurance: Families 'determined to get away'

Wednesday, 19 August 2009

Families up and down the UK may still be inclined to organise travel insurance, pack a suitcase and hop on a plane this summer, if the comments of one industry body are anything to go by.

According to the Association of Independent Tour Operators, mums and dads are determined to get away with the kids and other relatives - even though times are tight for many.

Executive director Kate Kenward explained: "Despite the recession, families are still looking forward to and booking their holidays as they realise it’s impossible to put a price on the value of a relaxing break."

She added that when booking a getaway for relatives of different ages, it is important to think about the various activities each member of the party is likely to enjoy.

This comes after a study by HolidayExtras.com revealed 42 per cent of people believe spending time with family is the best part of taking a trip.

Meanwhile, those keen to cut costs in the face of the recession may find they can secure cheap travel insurance online.
