Car insurance: Storm warning for UK drivers

Thursday, 06 July 2006

Motorists are being warned that the current weather could result in very difficult driving conditions.

The heat-wave is expected to give way to a number of heavy thunderstorms across the UK and many drivers are being encouraged to take extra care to avoid being involved in an accident.

In particular, motorists are being reminded to ensure they should avoid sudden braking or acceleration, otherwise they could be forced to claim on their car insurance cover and face increased premiums.

Sergeant Mike Streeter of Hampshire roads policing unit, said: "Poor visibility and difficult road conditions can make driving extremely hazardous."

He added: "It can take far longer to stop on a wet surface than on a dry road, so people must take extra care and increase their braking distance. Roads will be extra slippery following the long dry spell of weather."

Drivers looking to renew their car insurance cover ahead of the predicted storms can use the web to seek out budget motor insurance products as well as getting a car insurance quote online.
