Unlucky number 243 for home insurance holders

Wednesday, 26 January 2011

Contrary to common belief, 243 is actually the most unlucky number for home insurance policyholders, according to new research.

Someone living at 243 down a road is more than twice as likely to make a claim on their home or contents insurance than anyone else, research from Confused.com revealed.

Nearly half (45 per cent) of residents living at number 243 have had to make a claim on their insurance in the past four years.

Those living at 201 are next most-likely to claim, while anyone living at number one come in third place on the price comparison site's list.

Only 18 per cent of people living at supposedly unlucky number 13 claimed on their insurance policy over the past four years.

Gareth Kloet, head of home insurance at Confused.com, said: "Now is a peak time for home insurance claims as there have been more people in the house over Christmas which usually means more accidents.

"Some home insurance providers estimate entertaining at home left a whopping £820 million bill last year. Judging by our numbers it looks as if 243 is a popular place for a party!"

According to recent research by the Financial Services Compensation Scheme, more than £7 billion in cash is lying around in UK properties.
