Car insurance: Used autos 'a savvy choice'

Friday, 04 September 2009

Savvy motorists who always make sure they secure the cheapest online car insurance may find opting for second-hand models can save them even more money.

According to web-based vehicle retailer Autoquake, drivers can pick up a bargain by choosing a used model.

The company pointed out a 07-plate old-shape Ford Fiesta with 9,000 miles on the clock costs about half the price of a new example of the car - a saving of £6,000.

Chief executive officer Garry Hobson acknowledged everyone loves the idea of purchasing a vehicle straight off the production line.

However, he stated: "As soon as a new car is driven out of the showroom, it starts to lose value."

The group's representative added: "If you buy used, this depreciation works for you, not against you."

Meanwhile, motorists may also find second-hand autos qualify for budget car insurance, as older models tend to be cheaper to repair or replace.
