uSwitch backs better consumer info
Wednesday, 08 February 2012
A leading watchdog protecting consumers in the UK has backed calls for more transparency regarding pricing and switching information from energy providers.
Last week, OFGEM said that utility companies should make information easier to access for home insurance customers so that they can make the most informed decisions on how to protect their home from the weather.
Now uSwitch has said that these changes will prove vital to consumers.
"Consumers have been crying out for simpler, clearer and easier bills and information from energy suppliers for years. Greater transparency will go some way to rebuilding trust and boosting consumer confidence and engagement in the market," said Ann Robinson, the watchdog's director of consumer policy.
She went on to add that the proposed standing charges, which OFGEM said will make billing more standardised, have to be aimed so that low energy users are not penalised by being forced to overpay for less service than others.
