Website lets drivers locate crash areas

Wednesday, 28 September 2011

A website has been launched this week allowing members of the public the opportunity to look up details of road traffic crashes reported to the police since 2005.

CrashMap.co.uk will make over one million incidents available to car insurance customers.

This will allow drivers to locate crashes in a particular area and see what occurred and how serious the accident was.

On top of this, people will be able to download a detailed collision report from the site.

The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) recently told car insurance policyholders that the most frequently-reported factor in accidents on the UK's highways is the error of failing to look properly.

Kevin Clinton, head of road safety at RoSPA, said that recent figures revealed that this causes thousands of incidents each year.

"However, it is a bad habit that can be overcome. We encourage all drivers and riders to look beyond their learner tests and to take refresher training throughout their lives," he added.
