Welsh police home security warning
Friday, 27 January 2012
Police in Wales have offered tips to residents on home security after a spate of burglaries occurred in the area around Barry over the last few weeks.
Barry Police said that thieves entered three separate homes via insecure doors which had been left unlocked over the space of a few weeks, targeting cash and mobile phones along the way, and prompting the need for home insurance claims.
Acting sector inspector Jo Williams from Barry Police told the Barry and District News: "Many burglaries occur on the spur of the moment, as a burglar may see an opportunity and take their chance. Some criminals will seek out insecure properties where they can find an easy target."
The police reminded residents of the importance of making their home look lived in if they are not home, and to ensure they lock doors, even when they are in.
Recently, a convicted burglar said that students were the easiest targets, because they often leave their doors unlocked when they are home.
