Cash-strapped drivers who have managed to cut costs by securing the cheapest online car insurance may end up losing those savings through no fault of their own, if comments from one repair group are anything to go by.
According to Auto Windscreens, the poor state of Britain's roads has contributed to the company experiencing an unusually busy summer.
The firm revealed it was required to fix approximately 16 per cent extra chipped and cracked windshields during July and August, compared to the same months last year.
It acknowledged this was partly down to the fact that higher numbers of cars have been on the road, as a result of more people spending time in the UK rather than flying overseas.
However, the group also said the £1 billion deficit in road maintenance funding has contributed to the problem.
Sales and marketing director Nigel Davies commented: "Motorists who have chosen to save money and holiday at home this year are paying the price for that shortfall - as the increased number of chipped windscreens we have dealt with will testify."
Meanwhile, drivers keen to reduce costs may find some of the best deals on cheap car insurance are available online.
