car insurance claims in the first few days of this year have soared by almost 75 per cent compared to last year largely due to the past week's freezing weather, snow and blizzards.
Staff have been dealing with an 'unprecedented' level of calls which rocketed above the already inflated figures predicted for the start of a New Year.
Claims during the winter months are usually almost a quarter higher than the rest of the year. And even more claims are expected in the first working week of a New Year as people go back to work and the school run.
Robin Reames, Director of Claims at swiftcover.com commented: "The severity of the snow this week caught everyone by surprise and resulted in lots of drivers having accidents and problems with their cars, which in turn meant a record number of people contacting swiftcover.com for help or to make a claim."
Mr Reames also says that swiftcover.com staff deserve to be praised for making the effort to trudge through the snow to help with the build-up of claims.
