Travel insurance: Winter sports insurance often overpriced

Wednesday, 15 November 2006

A new travel insurance warning has been issued to winter sports enthusiasts who are not shopping around for the optimum travel insurance policy.

James Harrison from said: "People still do not realise that travel agents often charge well over the odds for a standard policy that contains little relevance to the individual holidaymaker's needs.

"Savvy travellers will take a few minutes online to compare who offers what across the market before making a choice."

A winter sports policy should allow you to ski or snowboard and should also cover medical costs, ski equipment, rescue and repatriation.

Insurance experts remind holidaymakers that a cheap travel insurance policy may not cover them if, for instance, they have been drinking alcohol and then attempt to ski back to the chalet.

The Post Office reports that injuries on ski slopes are responsible for a third of all travel insurance claims.
